The most famous group of Zodiac Braves are Delita Heiral and Ramza Beoulve who fought in the War of the Lions. Throughout the history of Ivalice there were many heroes known as the Zodiac Braves, such as Ashley Riot, Müllenkamp, Saint Ajora, and others. Perhaps the greatest difference is in its timeline-the Ivalice of XIV borrows elements primarily from its XII and Tactics appearances, but in XIV's timeline the Tactics elements predate the XII elements rather than the other way around. While it exists separately from Ivalice's other appearances, it bears many similarities, from nations such as Dalmasca to historical events such as the War of the Lions, though these shared elements have differences. The Ivalice of Final Fantasy XIV is unrelated to the Ivalice of other titles, here being an ancient near-eastern region in the Source rather than a world unto itself. Ivalice is the main focus of the Return to Ivalice raid series. Most of the game takes place on the sky continent of Lemurés with locations from Final Fantasy XII briefly visited. Reduced to an occupied territory, Dalmasca plays a central role in the still-heated dispute between its neighbors, which is again escalating.Ī new sky continent is discovered and sky pirates rush to explore it while new threats to the mainland of Ivalice emerge. Strategically located between the rival neighboring states, Dalmasca's position as a neutral buffer region is eliminated when Archadia invades it. The continents are dominated by an assortment of industrialized city-states: the Archadian Empire and the Kingdom of Nabradia in Valendia, the Rozarrian Empire in Ordalia, and sandwiched between the two the Kingdom of Dalmasca. Centuries ago King Raithwall united the three continents to establish the Galtean Alliance, but over time conflicts split the continents again. Only the lands bordering the Naldoan Sea are explored, although other Ivalician lands (the former Republic of Landis, for example) are sometimes mentioned. Ivalice is a region consisting of three continents: Ordalia in the west with a secret islet called the Den's Hideout, Valendia in the northeast, and Kerwon in the south. The stories set in Ivalice tend to be narratives. The fall of the Holy Ydoran Empire in particular is reminiscent of the French legend of Ys. The Golden Age of Ivalice is based on various ancient Mediterranean cultures such as Turkey, Jordan and Late Period Egypt, with additional influence from India, Sri Lanka and modern metropolitan cities, while its post- Cataclysm era-represented by Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story-is inspired by medieval and Renaissance-era Europe.

It first appeared in Final Fantasy Tactics, a spin-off entry to the series, and made its main series debut in Final Fantasy XII. Unlike many other Final Fantasy worlds, most games set in Ivalice happen in the same universe, usually at different periods in time.
Matsuno wanted to expand Ivalice across a number of different titles so that it would stay within the memories of players. Created by Director Yasumi Matsuno, Ivalice has been the setting of several games, including the non- Final Fantasy title, Vagrant Story.
